Just Bricks

Thomas Hanscomb is a conceptual artist from Copenhagen working with how context shapes perception, value, and meaning. Since Just Bricks, he has built a practice around guerrilla installations and cultural interventions through projects like Art of the People and Pink Border, collaborating with Marco Evaristti, Artpusher, and Kristian von Hornsleth. In September 2026, Thomas relocates to London for a one-year mentorship with British artist Gavin Turk, where he’ll continue building a practice centered on the engineering of perception through context.

Ivan: Last time I stood on The Lobby stage I’d just hung a brick in the Louvre and Tate Modern with Just Bricks – we’d made anti-art that suddenly counted as real art, turned over four million dollars, and the world felt like ours. Since then I’ve put my feet down in projects across the world. Now the Danish tax authorities are on our backs in an absurd case where they want us to pay money that doesn’t exist. And all of it stands on the shoulders of Kaospilot – it’s where I’ve learned to build systems that survive without me, find my allies, and see the world as something you can hack and rebuild rather than just accept. I’m not here to maintain the status quo; I’m here to take things apart and put them back together more beautifully. The tax case is a failure on paper – but it’s forced me to learn to choose courage over fear, and that’s the place I’m speaking from today.
